Luke 19:43

Gospel of Luke. His article does not name an edition. The Latin checked here is the public-domain Vulgate.

Luke 19:43

What the source says

The Latin says the days will come upon the city, and its enemies will surround it with a rampart, encircle it, and press it in on every side.

Why it is here

Ellis cites it in Jesus, King of Edessa as a description of a siege.

Ralph’s interpretation

The siege is read as the Roman siege of Jerusalem in AD 70, which would place the saying after the usual date of the crucifixion.

Alternative readings

The usual reading can take the same verse as a prediction spoken earlier, later matched to AD 70. The verse does not say AD 70. His file does not quote a commentator on this point.
